Hey y’all!

We apologize for not posting the past week’s meeting. Because last meeting was a closed meeting for womyn-identified APIQ members, we decided to not publicize it on Tumblr. However, now we are having a supplementary meeting centered on the gay/bi/queer men who have sex with men experience! 

We will be discussing very intimate topics such as social & dating apps (Grindr, Jack’d, A4A…), sex positivity (and its related constructs), and the different privileges that come with identifying as a man! In addition, we can discuss whatever y’all bring to the table because it’s an OPEN DISCUSSION!

Because this is a supplementary meeting, we are holding it in the LGBTRC from 7:00-8:30PM, right after QSU’s meeting. Please encourage your friends to go because allies are most definitely welcome…and intrigued, we hope!!

APIQ Mtg: Trust, Gossip, and Mafia!

hey yo wassup! hope everyone isn’t stressing themselves out too much quite just yet this quarter :)

Y’all are in for a treat this meeting, because we will be playing Mafia! For those who don’t know how to play, don’t worry, because the rules will be explained. For those who DO know how to play, dont worry, because we will be adding a twist in this game ;)

Mafia is a group-game that is based on an uninformed majority and an informed minority (sound familiar to you?) 

Sometimes, secrets are told in confidence, and inexplicably leaked (I didn’t tell anyone, I swear!) Sometimes, rumors are built upon an imaginary foundation, and gossip will spread through communities…. 

This meeting, we will be discussing issues of trust and gossip within small communities much like our own.

APIQ Werkshop: Theatre of the Oppressed

Hello everyone! It’s so hot out, y’alls are probably really thirsty…

for socio-political change and awareness!!

This meeting we will be exploring the reality that has been structured by society, and things that we might not think about in the flurry of business of our lives…through THEATRE!

As background, I’ve pulled some info from the world’s fav information site, Wikipedia:

“The Theatre of the Oppressed describes theatrical forms that the Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal first elaborated in the 1960s, initially in Brazil and later in Europe. Boal was influenced by the work of the educator and theorist Paulo Freire. Boal’s techniques use theatre as means of promoting social and political change. In the Theatre of the Oppressed, the audience becomes active, such that as “spect-actors” they explore, show, analyse and transform the reality in which they are living.”

Afterwards we will be surely be going out to eat, so be sure to leave your Wednesday nights free ;)

[APIQ] Spring Quarter’s First General Meeting! 

Hi everyone! I hope y’all had an amazing spring break. We can’t wait to hear about it! We miss y’all and I sure hope you missed us too!

Join us this Wednesday as we play various games and reacquaint everyone after the long break. In addition, we will be presenting all the exciting events we have lined up this quarter which includes: Queer Prom, QACON, Lavender Graduation, Asian Pacific Culture Week and SO MUCH MORE!

This meeting is OPEN! So be sure to tell your friends and bring them along with you!

Pizza will be provided but it will be at a limited amount so please be on time!

It’s that time of year again!!!! It’s time to LOCK. DOWNE.

APIQ lockdowne is an annual event held to promote general community closeness through food, good company, and sharing our stories.

APIQ lockdowne starts at 8:00 pm on Friday and ends on 12:00 pm on Saturday. From 8:00 - 11:00, lockdowne is an open event (allies welcome!!) to mingle and eat. At 11:00 pm, we will Lock Downe and we will have to ask all non- API and Queer identified people to leave. We can give rides for people who need them :>

Since we are trying to get to know each other, do NOT bring your laptops or other such electronic devices to the event (phones of course, are alright). Try to keep off your phones, though! :) I know that finals are juuuuust around the corner, but were you really going to study on a Friday night/Saturday morning???

do bring essential items for general hygiene (toothbrush, floss, etc) and for sleeping (sleeping bag, a blanket, what have you). Lockdowne IS an overnight event, so use your better judgement for what to bring ;)

it should also be note that Lockdowne is a substance-free event. Please, refrain from bringing libations and other such intoxicants.

One more thing! The food provided here will be potluck style! Try to bring some sort of food/drink, if you are able

APIQ Workshop: (mis)Communication and (mis)Appropriation

Hello everyone!

Have you ever been in a situation or conversation where you misinterpret what the other person is saying? 

Of course you have, because language, amongst most other kinds of communication, is idiosyncratic! (idios = one’s own). In this workshop, we will delve into the deeper meaning of communication, interpretation, and appropriation…come with an open mind! :)

APIQ Closed Meeting: Love, Dive, Werq!

Hey there!

it’s been a little while since we’ve had a regular ole meeting, isn’t that right? With midterms and life bombarding us daily, i think we need some self-care in the form of a closed meeting.

We will be discussing the topics of body image, self-care, and self-empowerment!

and one of our very special core members may be performing a little piece for all of y’all ;)

** I would like to reiterate the CLOSED part of this meeting; having closed meetings is vital in creating a safe space for those who identify as Asian/Pacific Islander AND queer. Allies, please respect this space.
